The Dwarf Willow is officially the world’s smallest tree, measuring only 1-6cm in height! A hardy little thing which is incredibly versatile, it can thrive in freezing, high-altitude Arctic-alpine environments, such as the Scottish Highlands and the Alps, but close to sea level in the high Arctic. An important shelter and food source for species living in remote regions, such as the Arctic Fox, it also acts as a vital supply of nectar for early-spring pollinators. The Dwarf Willow is highly sensitive to alterations in temperature and snow cover, making it an important species for botanists monitoring the Arctic’s changing climate.
