Dr Hannah Wilson, Head of ICCP
Dr Hannah Wilson is Head of the International Conifer Conservation Programme (ICCP) at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh. She leads global efforts to protect threatened conifer species, bringing together horticulture, taxonomy, and conservation strategy. Her work supports international partnerships, ex-situ collections, and research in the UK and Ireland through the ICCP, and globally through the Global Conservation Consortium for Conifers.
Originally trained in mathematics, Hannah began her career in floristry before moving into horticulture, where she developed a passion for plant propagation and rhododendrons. She holds an MSc in the Biodiversity and Taxonomy of Plants and a PhD in Begonia taxonomy, both from RBGE. Hannah now combines academic and practical expertise to lead multidisciplinary conservation work that links science, horticulture, and global collaboration, and supervises students across scientific research and horticultural training related to conifers, their biology and conservation.
