Dr Roger Hyam, Digital Information Development Officer

I have a background in botany - gaining an PhD in taxonomy in the 1990s. After spending several years working as a commercial software engineer, I combined my taxonomy and information technology skills to work in the field of biodiversity informatics. Over the last two decades my work has ranged from developing mobile phone apps, to collaborating on information exchange standards, to research based on remote sensing data.

I am currently technical lead on the World Flora Online Plant List. This involves maintaining the infrastructure necessary to publish a consensus classification of all vascular plants and bryophytes twice a year. It is a collaborative project with over two hundred contributors.
