I live in rural North West Tasmania and, as I’m now retired from my working life in administration, I am fortunate to be able to pursue my two main passions – botanical illustration and gardening, with a focus on growing and collecting rare and unusual plants.
I enjoy using various art mediums, particularly watercolour, coloured pencil, pen & ink and graphite.
As I felt that my watercolour skills needed improvement, I decided to do the RBGE Certificate in Botanical Illustration course in 2022, which I thoroughly enjoyed and which inspired me to progress to the RBGE Diploma Course in 2023.
Title of the project
Plants in the Rosaceae family
About the project
Tasmania has a cool temperate climate and supports diverse plant life, ranging from rainforest species to coastal and alpine plants. Here in North West Tasmania, we are able to grow many plants from temperate regions around the world.
We have a fruit orchard and vegetable beds and also grow a variety of flowering trees, shrubs, perennials and bulbs. I chose five plants in the Rosaceae family, and specimens of these plants grow in our garden.
Although these plants are all in same family, their characteristics are quite different and I think these differences add an interesting artistic dimension to my work.
