Simona Tamanti was born into a family of artists; her father was a well-known sculptor in Rome during the 1980s. She graduated in the restoration of paintings and frescoes from the ISCR (Istituto Superiore per la Conservazione ed il Restauro dei Beni Culturali) in Rome, and worked for several years in this field, often traveling throughout Italy.
Always drawn to nature, she became passionate about Botanical Illustration during a long stay abroad. In particular, she dedicated herself to the study and depiction of plant species, striving to capture their natural bearing and, above all, aiming to document them by creating a small watercolor herbarium.
Her works aim to highlight and raise awareness of the importance of biodiversity and the fragility of natural ecosystems.
Title of the project
Perennial plants in wetlands and ponds of the Siena area
About the project
I chose to paint aquatic plants for my Diploma project because I have always been captivated by the beauty and mystery of what happens beneath the water’s surface. Often, only the emerging flower is admired, while the rest of the plant is overlooked. My curiosity drove me to explore the structure and root development of these species in the soil.
Another aspect that intrigued me was understanding how the climate with increasingly hot, prolonged summers and declining rainfall in the Siena area, influences the survival of these remarkably resilient plants.
