Flower Power open call

We are delighted to launch an open call to artists, makers and designers based in the United Kingdom and Ireland, to submit expressions of interest to exhibit in Flower Power.

The exhibition will run 19 March – 31 October 2027 in Inverleith House Gallery, Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh.

Flower Power exhibition

Flower Power will be a group show featuring contemporary creatives, from a broad range of disciplines, including sculpture, photography, fashion, music and floral installations. The exhibition will draw on the Botanics’ collections, including botanical illustrations and herbarium specimens, and bring research to life, such as our current work on pollination ecology.

What are we looking for?

We are keen to learn what Flower Power means to you. How would you inspire wonder in our visitors? You might choose to explore the genesis of flowering plants, pollination, flowers in culture (e.g. floral trends, symbolism and social movements), iconic Botanics flowers (e.g. Himalayan blue poppies, Campbell’s magnolia and rhododendrons) or the future of flowers. We appreciate that ideas might evolve as the project progresses.

We welcome:

  •     Existing or new work
  •     Work that engages with our Gardens, horticulture and science, and new ideas
  •     Creatives of all kinds, at any stage in their career

Additional events and activities

Please note if you would be interested in delivering a Flower Power workshop as part of our short course programme – in addition to, or rather than, exhibiting in the exhibition – and briefly let us know what this would consist of.

We also welcome contributions to public engagement events and activities linked to the exhibition. Please indicate if this is something you would be interested in. Opportunities would be programmed by the Events team, with details and fees to be agreed.
