One of our strengths is the diversity, not only of the plant collection, but also the skills and knowledge of the horticultural team. A key element of this role will be leading not just the development of the living collection, the garden landscapes, but also developing the horticultural teams across all four gardens. So what makes the RBGE living collection unique is the scale and diversity of the number of species we cultivate, somewhere in the region of 13,500 species. | |
| We also have four amazing gardens with very different microclimates across the southern half of Scotland. RBGE works closely with over 40 countries, and our international reputation means that there will be a significant opportunity to work closely with collaborators in many of these countries. This is a special time to join and lead the horticultural division here at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh as we come to the culmination of the first phase of our biomes or glasshouse restoration program. | |
| Other projects that we're involved in is Nature Restoration Fund work across Scotland, and also our nature-based solutions team working to alleviate the worst impacts of climate change here in the Garden of Edinburgh. As well as that work, there are routine, if you can call it that, work on expanding and enhancing our living collections, not just here in Edinburgh, but across all four gardens.
