Value enhanced research and conservation

The living plant collection, at the core of the work of the Garden, is of global importance in addressing the biodiversity crisis.

Here, we hold in care species that are endangered and even extinct in their natural habitats – many of which are yet to be fully scientifically described and formally named.

By restoring or replacing our public and research Glasshouses, we will secure the future of thousands of botanical specimens and continue to provide an internationally renowned resource for researchers in their efforts to mitigate against biodiversity loss and the climate emergency.

The newly restored spaces and a specially designed new visitor experience, will help protect and showcase some of the Garden’s precious Living Collection of plants – inspiring awe and wonder in visitors of all ages.
