Founded as a physic garden in 1670, the Botanics’ history is rooted in the growth, study and use of herbs for medicinal purposes. 

This year, we celebrate 20 years of our contemporary herbology course and the enduring healing and cultural power of plants.In this exhibition you will discover a selection of medicinal plants, remedy-making methods and recipes, giving a glimpse into our Garden's green pharmacy.

Infused with time-honoured healing herbs thyme and marjoram, long valued for their anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and therapeutic properties, this Garden Herb, Cheese & Mustard Scone offers a delicious nod to the Botanics' historic green pharmacy. Reflecting the bountiful harvest of herbs grown in the onsite Kitchen Garden, each bite celebrates our Garden and its living herbology traditions, where the nourishing, restorative power of plants continues to shape remedies, recipes, and the wellbeing of our visitors.
