Celebrating our partnership with Postcode Lottery
Celebrating our partnership since 2011
-
Since 2011, the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh has benefited from an amazing £5.88 million in support raised by Postcode Lottery players, awarded through the Postcode Green Trust. This vital funding underpins our mission to explore, conserve, and explain the world of plants for a better future.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude for the continued commitment of Postcode Lottery players, which is making a lasting impact on people, plants, and the planet.
Thanks to this long-term support we’ve been able to:
Postcode Lottery players have enabled the Botanics to carry out vital scientific research across the globe. This includes work to safeguard cacao plants, the source of chocolate, which are under threat from climate change, disease, and unsustainable farming practices.
Closer to home, support from players has helped drive the Scottish Plant Recovery programme - a major conservation initiative working to restore some of Scotland’s most threatened native plant species.
The "Engaging Gardens" programme, made possible thanks to players, aims to ensure that everyone can access and benefit from the health, wellbeing, and learning opportunities offered by our gardens, collections, and expertise.
Support Educational Initiatives Player support has enabled expansion of our schools’ programme, offering inspiring, curriculum-linked learning experiences to thousands of pupils each year. This includes Regional Schools Weeks, which brings pupils from local areas to Benmore, Dawyck, and Logan for a free week of immersive, nature-based education.
The funding has been instrumental in maintaining and enhancing our four Gardens across Scotland - Edinburgh, Benmore, Dawyck, and Logan - ensuring they remain accessible spaces for education, research, and enjoyment.
