A new Professional Credential from the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh and NatureScot
The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh and NatureScot have developed this new online course to share nature-positive practices for managing and maintaining amenity grasslands. This course is ideal for land-based professionals such as horticulturists, landscapers, and other nature conservation practitioners.
This short course aims to share knowledge and practices to help you increase the biodiversity value of amenity grasslands, including parks, gardens, and urban environments. Upon completion of the course, you will learn how evidence-based horticultural practices can help nature flourish in the greenspaces we enjoy and value.

The topics covered in the lessons are:
Background This lesson introduces learners to the fundamental aspects grassland management.
Promoting nature This lesson outlines the range of different species found in grasslands and explores how they rely on grasslands to thrive.
Design and establishment This lesson explains the design considerations for creating new nature-positive amenity grasslands on sites with a variety of starting conditions.
Maintenance and management This lesson explains how to look after an amenity grassland in a nature-positive way.
You can purchase this course anytime. You will be registered onto the course on the Tuesday or Thursday afternoon after your payment has been processed.
The course consists of a welcome activity and 3 topics which you can work through at your own pace. We recommend about 4 hours to complete this course.
Each topic contains a selection of interactive lessons, videos, audio clips, and a quiz as well as a selection of downloadable resources that complement the lesson.
You will have access for 12 months so you will have plenty of time to refer back to the course if you wish to.
There is the opportunity to download a Statement of Participation on completion of the course.
