Will Ritchie, Head of Biodiversity Education and Training
Will leads professional training, academic programmes and capacity building at the Botanics. As an ardent plant conservationist, he believes that sharing knowledge and skills is essential for developing a global capacity for biodiversity conservation. Will also advocates for working in partnership and enjoys collaborating with Botanics' existing partners worldwide.
Will is a graduate of both the Botanics and University of Arkansas. His professional career has centred on the management of botanic gardens and teaching related to plant biodiversity. As the Curator at Glasgow Botanic Gardens and the National Botanic Garden of Wales, Will was responsible for prominent plant collections and worked to enhance their utility for conservation, education, research, and public engagement. Additionally, he has experience in further and higher education, including teaching, curriculum development and academic leadership.
In addition to Will's role at the Botanics, he has held voluntary roles with organisations such as the Royal Horticultural Society and PlantNetwork and worked with governments to help further training and professional development in horticulture.
