About this Yunnan Fir
Other names: Leng shan (Standard Mandarin Chinese)
We love this beautiful Chinese fir with stiff dark green needles that have paler undersides. The upright cones on well-spaced tiered branches create a symmetrical tree that reminds us of a decorated Christmas tree.
The Yunnan fir is protected on Mount Emei, one of four scared mountains in Chinese Buddhist tradition. However, elsewhere this fir is exploited for construction, wood pulp and a gum used in optics. It has been assessed as vulnerable to extinction (IUCN, 2010)
