About this Yew
This is an evergreen coniferous tree, with separate male and female plants.
This is an evergreen coniferous tree, with separate male and female plants. The male trees bear small round golden cones from February and produce clouds of pollen. The females bear fruits that are single seeded and surrounded by a fleshy red enclosing cup (the aril).
The dense wood is suited to turning and is used in furniture making and for veneers. Traditionally yew staves were the source of longbows.
