Weeping Silver Lime

About this Weeping Silver Lime

Other names: Silver pendent lime; Tilia tomentosa ‘Petiolaris’

This lime is a truly majestic large specimen tree that can be fully appreciated from several angles. In summer, the contrast between the dark green upper leaf surface and the ‘silver’ effect created by dense white hairs on the lower leaf surface is very striking.

During periods of drought the leaves roll and adjust their position to expose more of the lower surface. This increases the reflection of light, reducing heat stress and water loss. This adaptation enables silver limes to survive in places where water shortage will be experienced.
