About this Lime
Lime flowers are rich in nectar and very attractive to insects, especially bees.
Small-leaved lime is at the northern limit of its native range in Scotland.
Parkland and estate plantings are usually a hybrid, known as common lime, which is a cross between small-leaved lime and large-leaved lime. The hybrid tree often has a bushy tuft of shoots, called suckers, surrounding the base of the trunk.
Lime flowers are rich in nectar and very attractive to insects, especially bees. Lime wood is quite soft and good for carving.
