We will foray the beachfront at North Berwick, looking to rack (or wrack?) up as much seaweed diversity as we can. We’ll gain a basic understanding of how these incredible organisms work, an overview of their basic groups and some of the key features for identification. We will also have a look at their ecology, and see how they act as essential nurseries and habitats for a host of other species.
Looking in brackish rockpools, in sheltered areas, and more exposed areas, we’ll collect what we can (safely !) and try to make sense of the way they are adapted to the different habitats around or rocky and sandy shores. Taught by Greg Kenicer
Please do note that this workshop takes place in North Berwick. A general level of fitness is recommended as walking is required.
This is an adult education workshop, participants must be 16+
