Merlin Sheldrake is a biologist and a writer. He received a Ph.D. in tropical ecology from Cambridge University for his work on underground fungal networks in tropical forests in Panama. Entangled Life is his first book. It won the Royal Society Science Book Prize and the Wainwright Prize and was named a book of the year in The Times, Daily Telegraph, Sunday Times, New Statesman and Time magazine. It has been reissued in an illustrated edition to showcase this wondrous lifeform as never before.
The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh has played a leading role in developing DNA barcoding to help explore the biodiversity of fungi. We have also digitised thousands of our dried fungi specimens in the Herbarium, giving researchers easier access to one of the important collections in the world.
