Enjoy all nature has to offer with exclusive after-hours access to the Edinburgh Garden for a night of mushroom magic with live music, talks, workshops, and visual art celebrating our exhibition Fungi Forms.
Delve into the undergrowth and learn about fungi in the garden with our science experts, dance under oak trees, listen to music while taking in views of the city and sip a drink while creating your own mushroom work of art.
In partnership with Edinburgh Art Festival.

Programme throughout the night
- Fungi Forms Exhibition - Fungi are a perpetual inspiration for artists. Through music, literature, fashion, design, scent and visual art, Fungi Forms will take you on a spectacular journey, exploring fungi in science, culture and innovation.
- Brian D’Souza fungi sound installation - discover the sounds of mushrooms through biosonification installation playing you live mushroom sounds.
- RBGE Science - led by scientists from RBGE, visitors will be able to explore the microscopic world of mycorrhizal roots.
- Fungi Art - create your own clay mushroom while listening to the music of Jose Miguel Navas.
- Silent Disco - dance around the apple trees in our Demonstration Garden with a fungi inspired sound track.
- Play with Plants - a fun interactive play experience exploring the world of plants, build Lego, dress up, read stories and much more.
- Fungi Communities - what do we have in common with fungi? Coorie down in our outdoor living room and discuss all things fungi and community. Chat to someone you’ve never met before and feed your thoughts into our live illustration.
- Fungi and Lichen tours - 20-minute guided fungi and lichen tours through the garden.
Performances
Hannah Read
Edinburgh-born musician and composer, Hannah Read, will be performing from her album of fungi inspired music. Best known for her fiddle playing, songwriting, composing and Hannah was recently described as one of “the finest singers of our day” (MOJO Magazine). Alongside musicians Cahalen Morrison (banjo / guitar), Matt Carmichel (saxophone) and Charlie Van Kirk (percussion and sound design). The quartet will provide an immersive listening experience among the beautiful oak trees of Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh.
Jose Miguel Navas
As part of Más Arte Más Acción’s artistic public intervention Around a Tree, Musical composer, sound artist and environmentalist Jose Miguel Navas, a.k.a. Savan, is performing a sonic dialog between electronic music and ancestral music of the Amazon and the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta.
Food and Drink
- Enjoy handcrafted pizza at the outdoor Deck Bar, where you can also enjoy a glass of wine or Gardeners Brew craft ale, overlooking lush gardens and exotic plants.
- Sample delicious tacos whilst sipping a cocktail in the beautiful surroundings of the Garden.
