About this Ash
Ash is one of the commonest large trees in Scottish woodlands.
Ash is one of the commonest large trees in Scottish woodlands. It is recognised in winter by its black buds; and in summer by its large leaves divided into leaflets.
Ash has a special place in many European traditions as the World Tree; in Norse mythology this is Yggdrasil. The legendary strength of ash led to the belief that this power could be passed on to young babies by feeding them its sap.
