Dr Flávia Fonseca Pezzini, Bioinformatician
I am a Bioinformatician at RBGE supporting the research of staff and students. In addition, I investigate the nature of plant species and the evolutionary history of the Neotropics.
I work in collaboration with RBGE staff and students integrating new and existing genomics resources into our research. I provide data analysis and curation support across our research projects including genome assembly, population genomics, and phylogenomics in a wide range of plants.
My core research interest is the biogeography and evolutionary history of the Neotropics. I use molecular phylogenetic approaches to generate phylogenies with multiple accessions per species to clarify our understanding of species boundaries and their diversification trajectories. Currently, my focus is on two Neotropical genera: Ceiba Mill. (Malvaceae, Bombacoideae), one of the most conspicuous and charismatic trees of the threatened Seasonally Dry Tropical Forest (SDTF), and the highly diverse Inga Mill. (Fabaceae).
