Event Details

The event runs from 26 November to 3 January (closed 30 Nov, 1, 7, 8, 25, 31 Dec and 1 Jan).  There are 11 entry times to start your trail, every 20 minutes from 4.15pm (last entry 8.15pm).  The Garden will close at 10pm on event nights.

This is an evening event that takes place after the Garden closes.  It is an outdoor trail and does not include entry into the Glasshouses. Keep cosy by wearing warm and waterproof clothing and footwear.

Tickets Prices

Advance tickets: adult from £19, child from £13, family* from £60. Children under 4 and carers go free. Tickets will be dearer on the day. See booking website for a calendar of dates and prices.

Special Members Discount: Adult members can buy tickets at the reduced rate of £16. Click here for more information on becoming a Member.

Booking fees apply. All tickets are subject to a single transaction charge: £2 per transaction for print at home tickets and £2.50 for tickets sent by first class post. Bookings in person not available at this time.

Tickets can be purchased at the Botanics' John Hope Gateway visitor centre, Arboretum Place, by debit and credit card only.  There is no booking charge for tickets purchased and collected in person at the John Hope Gateway.

Travel Information

When buying your tickets, you will be able to enter from the West Gate entrance on Arboretum Place (EH3 5NZ) or the East Gate entrance on Inverleith Row (EH3 5LP).

  • If you are travelling by car or taxi, please choose West Gate tickets.   Please refer to our Event Access and Parking Map.
  • If you are arriving by bus, please select East Gate tickets.  This entrance is well served by buses 8, 23 and 27.  Please refer to the Lothian Buses website.

No event parking close to the East Gate, please.  This entrance is intended for use only by visitors arriving by bus or on foot.

Cancellations

In the event of severe weather, such as strong winds or snow, the event may be cancelled. The Garden will close if the weather presents a hazard and a risk to the safety of our customers.

Any decision to cancel the event will be taken at 2pm on the day of the event. A cancellation alert will be posted to the Edinburgh Garden homepage and a notice will also appear on the rbge.org.uk/christmas page as well as via our social media channels. Customers will be contacted by their ticket agents shortly afterwards with details of how to rebook. If you have not been contacted within 48 hours, you are advised to contact your ticket agent customer service department.

PLEASE NOTE: If you bought tickets in person at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, or booked online at website rbge.org.uk/christmas or by telephoning 0844 955 1363, then you are a See Tickets customer.

Photography

RBGE welcomes photographers who capture and film their experience on cameras and smart phones for personal use and sharing via social media #christmasatthebotanics. If using photography equipment and tripods please adhere to our Photography Guidelines to ensure that you do not obstruct or diminish the enjoyment of others at the event.

Covid-19 (coronavirus) notice

You can book with confidence for Christmas at the Botanics. The health and safety of our visitors and staff remains a top priority and we are continually monitoring and responding to the Covid-19 pandemic situation as it evolves. Current plans in place for the comfort and reassurance of our visitors include:

  • Adding extra time slots and revising the trail route to manage visitor flow
  • Additional cleaning across the route each night
  • Catering facilities are under review

We will continue to review the situation and communicate any further updates with you. If Christmas at the Botanics is cancelled, you will be notified and offered an alternative date, if available, or a full refund. If you are unable to attend because of government restrictions in place due to coronavirus, please contact See Tickets customer service at the earliest opportunity to discuss further.
