Peter & Diane McDonald
Peter & Diane McDonald (1967)
We first met as teenagers at ballroom dancing lessons in Glasgow, then went our separate ways to universities in Glasgow and Edinburgh. A letter published in the Glasgow Herald saw us meeting up again and this time we spent quite a bit of time together in Edinburgh. This photo of Diane amid the spring daffodils is a record of our visits to the Botanics in 1967. As Members of the Botanics for many years, we regularly visit the gardens in Cowal and Edinburgh and take pleasure in seeing the progress of the plantings in the restored Fernery at Benmore and the new Alpine House at the RBGE. This year we are celebrating our Golden Wedding Anniversary in very different circumstances to the carefree student days of the 1960’s. The world has changed and threats abound, but the Gardens continue to give us a positive message about how by helping nature we can make things better.
