The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh’s iconic Temperate and Tropical Palm Houses are crucial to the survival of the living collection of 34,000+ plants housed within them. However, given the age and rapidly deteriorating condition of both glasshouses, these stunning Grade-A listed buildings, and the precious collection they contain, are at severe risk.
As part of Edinburgh Biomes, the largest project undertaken in the history of the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, a full restoration of these vital structures will begin later this year. The deteriorating and damaged stonework will be completely restored and repaired, the roof structures and windows will see a large-scale replacement, new access systems will be installed, and the existing heating system will be linked to a new efficient, eco-friendly and sustainable energy centre.
The restoration of our Victorian Palm Houses is an extremely ambitious but truly vital undertaking, and every gift we receive is invaluable in enabling us to accomplish this project. Please consider donating today and help us preserve our magnificent Palm Houses, and the invaluable collection they house, for generations to come.
