About this Sycamore
Although common in Scottish woods, the sycamore is an introduction from Europe, probably by the Romans.

The wood of this large maple has many traditional uses. The rounded stems provided rollers in early textile mills; they are also readily turned to make chair legs. The characteristic winged seeds are typical of all maples and are often called ‘helicopters’.
