Thank you for supporting the Botanics Response Fund
Since November 2020, over 500 donors have donated over £49,000 to help the Gardens adapt and respond to the needs of our local community. In recent months, your generosity has made it possible for us to continue existing activities with community groups and schools, plan and develop new activities, and has opened doors for exciting partnerships that will greatly improve the Garden's accessibility.
What your donations are helping us achieve
We are developing accessible tours for the four Gardens. Currently in development are British Sign Language (BSL) tours for people who are d/Deaf and hard of hearing. We are also developing live audio-described tours for those who are blind or have visual impairments. We anticipate our first BSL tours will be delivered in late 2021 with live audio-described tours commencing from Spring 2022. In addition, the Botanics Response Fund will allow us to train staff across the organisation to ensure these offers are supported and made more accessible and welcoming.
Heath and Wellbeing Activities
We are developing a range of health and wellbeing activities to help local communities access the benefits of the Gardens and other local greenspaces. The on-site activities will start in the Edinburgh Garden in late 2021 with activities in our Regional Gardens following shortly after. By working with external partners, we will develop practical engagement sessions to inspire children and adults to explore, love and draw solace from the natural world. Development is still in progress, but the sessions are likely to include activities such as: mindfulness walks, creating natural mandalas, making herbal balms, and forest bathing.
Engaging Gardens videos
We are expanding our Skills Share Programme to support groups to develop green spaces and gardens in their own areas. We will offer site consultations and follow up with recommendations, training and activities specifically designed for each group’s requirements. In addition to the wide range of local community groups we have supported in recent years, we have just begun working with NHS Lothian to help them make more of their green spaces for staff and patients. If you know anyone who would like our advice, please contact us on email@example.com to find out more about the Skill Share programme.
How your donations help us
To help us do more for the health and wellbeing needs of people in the communities surrounding our four Gardens, we are asking for your support to help us face the challenges ahead. Every penny you give will enable us to continue our work at a time when it is most needed.
