Dr Bhaskar Adhikari, Temperate Asia Taxonomist

I have been working on the Flora of Nepal for more than 10 years. My expertise is in plant taxonomy and systematics. I am interested in using our scientific knowledge of plants to work with local communities to improve livelihoods, conserve biodiversity, and sustainably utilise natural resources.

I am currently managing a project funded by the Darwin Initiative UK entitled Science-based interventions reversing negative impacts of invasive plants in Nepal. Invasive plants are one of the most serious threats to the biodiversity of Nepal. We are working with local communities to help them identify and manage invasive plants in their community forests.

I have worked on floristic accounts of families Acanthaceae, Berberidaceae, and Parnassiaceae for the Flora of Nepal, and am now working on the Gesneriaceae account. I have been on more than 10 plant collecting expeditions in Nepal from the lowlands of the Tarai to high alpine regions.
