Terms & Conditions of Entry

  • The competition is open to all amateur and professional photographers.
  • Entry forms will be accepted from 1 February until the closing date on 30 September 2015.
  • Up to three photographs may be submitted for the entry fee of £10 and more may be submitted for £2 for each additional photo. Members can enter 5 images for £10 and may also submt extra images at a cost of £2 each. Young Photographers can enter up to 3 images at a cost of £2 each. All funds raised will be used to support the Garden's world class research and conservation work.
  • Prints and digital images will be accepted from any type of film or digital cameras.
  • Photographic Prints must be printed on an A4 page and unmounted. We regret that prints cannot be returned. The back of each print must carry the name, address, telephone and email address of the entrant, the category for which the photo is entered, and the Garden in which it was taken (if applicable). The (preferably Latin) name of featured plant(s) must be given for entries to the Plant Portrait category. Prints should be posted along with a completed entry form to: RBGE Photography Competition, Membership Office, 20a Inverleith Row, Edinburgh. EH3 5LR.
  • Digital Entries must be between 3MB and 10MB and files should be named following the guidelines on the application form. The should be e-mailed to photocomp@rbge.org.uk with a completed entry form attached. Please put your name as the subject of the email. The entry fee for digital entries, if not paying via a credit or debit card, should be posted, along with a downloaded entry form, to the Membership Office as above.
  • The winners will be chosen by judges appointed by RBGE. The judges' decision is final.
  • Winners will be notified in October and prizes presented at an event (date to be confirmed) in Edinburgh.
  • Copyright of images will remain with the photographer, but RBGE and The Scotsman claim the right to exhibit the entries and to use them in publicity material to promote the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh and/or its photography competition. For this purpose RBGE claims the right to edit or use images in combination with others.
  • Photographs must be the original work of the entrant and taken at one of the four Gardens of RBGE within the last year, apart from those entered into the Scotland's Flora and Young Photographer categories, which can be taken anywhere in Scotland.
  • Care must be taken not to damage plants or RBGE property in taking the photos.
  • Please ensure that images do not feature any identifiable people.
  • A permit is required to use a tripod within the Gardens. This should be discussed with the Visitor Welcome Team on 0131 248 2909 or email vistorwelcome@rbge.org.uk. We would ask that tripods are not used in the rock garden.
