Join staff from the University of Aberdeen Rowett Institute of Nutrition and Health for some fun in the Food Lab! Have a go at our simple but spectacular experiments using everyday items from your kitchen. Suitable for all ages.

Scotland's Garden Scheme Open Day

The Garden is open to support Scotland’s Garden Scheme Charities. The Garden reaches its early summer climax with a canvas of colours ranging from exotic Rhododendrons, spectacular Paeonias and Meconopsis to name but a few.

Wildlife Detective Weekend

Meet real life wildlife detectives - find out how you can help protect Scottish wildlife, including our family of Botanics sparrowhawks. Take part in a range of activities for all the family. There will also be talks on protecting wildlife (sign up at the event).

Rock Art

Come along to a drop-in session and create your very own “rock” bug or animal to keep you company or paint a masterpiece on your very own piece of Galloway to take away and keep for yourself or give away as a present to a loved one.

Bumblebee Ball

Bumblebee Ball

Bumblebees are familiar visitors to our gardens, so come along to find out more about these fascinating creatures. Staff from Bumblebee Conservation Trust will be there to lead short guided walks (approx. 45 minutes each) and answer your questions about bumblebees.

Make a wind chime

Create your own wind chime using the shells from locally caught scallops to hang in the garden or window in this drop-in-event. Some adult supervision/assistance will be needed if the children are very young as they will need to use a small craft drill.

People’s Postcode Edible Garden Tours

Visit the Edible Gardening Project polytunnel, fruit area and vegetable plots for advice and inspiration. Free tours available at 12 noon, limited spaces so arrive early to avoid disappointment. Meet at visitor reception in the John Hope Gateway.

From Seeds to Cuttings !

Find out how to carry out simple plant propagation at this hourly event. After which you will be able to take away your own prepared pot of cuttings and sown “Salad Pot”.
