Imagine stepping into a green and tranquil place.  Somewhere you feel free to switch off your phone, stop talking and just take in the view and listen to nature...

Last year Benmore Botanic Garden became the first garden in Scotland to join Silent Space - encouraging people to switch off and truly relax.

We have 2 Silent Spaces, one is situated in a secluded spot among a hillside collection of species Rhododendrons with magnificent views across the garden and Strath Eachaig to the mountains in the east.

The other is in the Golden Gates Arboretum among giant conifers of Giant Redwoods, Douglas Firs and Scots Pine.

A spokesman for Silent Space said: "There's nothing complicated about Silent Space.  It's an area of a garden or a park, already enjoyed by the public that is reserved for silent visiting."

Once inside a Silent Space, we stop talking, turn off our phones and cameras, and switch off from social media.  There are no other rules.  The spokesman added: "Whether sitting or strolling, we take time to notice the beauty around us.  Even as little as five minutes will help us to enjoy the restorative benefits of being peaceful in a green place."

Benmore Botanic Garden is delighted to be part of this project and hopes that many of our visitors and other Scottish Gardens will embrace Silent Space.
