Begonia is the fastest-growing genus of plants in terms of species numbers, thanks to recent efforts of the Species Discovery Programme at the Botanics, and a resurgence of interest in this fascinating group of plants by researchers worldwide.

We have described 80 new Begonia species over the past several years, with dozens more in the pipeline. Join us to see where we find these new discoveries and how we go about introducing them to the world. Not every discovery is new, as some of our Begonia finds are species thought lost for hundreds of years, but are an equally welcome addition to our knowledge of plant biodiversity.
