We are delighted that local choir 8+1 have chosen the beautiful surroundings of Benmore Botanic Garden for their first concert of 2013.
Their programme which will last approximately 40 minutes will offer a light music selection with a range of styles including folk song arrangements, pop and jazz standards.
If you've lived in the area for a long time, you may remember the mixed-voice choir The Hesperians, which John McIntosh formed in the mid-70s and which eventually ran out of men to sing tenor and bass. Years later, some of the women who had sung in the choir approached McIntosh with the request that he start another group, and 8+1 was born. Originally the name referred to the makeup of the group - eight women singing under the direction of one man - but now it's more a name than a description as they go from strength to strength; it's not that someone can't count.
8+1 have sung in venues all over the area, from Rothesay and Cumbrae to Kames and Strachur.
