This course introduces a range of topics from soil science to garden design, as well as some suggestions for learning more about horticulture from libraries, lectures and the internet. Introduction to Horticulture is suitable either as a single course to give you an overview of the subject, or as a stepping stone to further study such as the RHS Level 2 Certificate in the Principles of Horticulture. You need no knowledge of science before you begin, but some experience of gardening will be an advantage. The style of the course is informal and participative, combining tutor input, exercises and group work.
Over the weeks subjects covered will include:
-
People and plants
-
Naming and classifying plants
-
Understanding plant anatomy
-
What do plants need?
-
What is soil?
-
Weeds, pests and diseases
-
Planning your garden - the basics
-
