This hands-on workshop demonstrates the skills required to produce professional specimens. This is the format in which dried plant specimens are preserved as a reference collection. If well prepared, they can last indefinitely. We have in our collection some of the actual specimens collected by Charles Darwin on his Beagle voyage and new specimens being found today can be compared against these. As well as an important research tool, they are also very beautiful.
Utilising the extensive plant collections held at RBGE we will look at:
Collecting plant materials
Pressing and drying techniques
- Compiling collections and label information
This will be followed by preparing and mounting a herbarium specimen to take home.
All materials are included.
