The last in our series of Art of Herbs aft ernoons, draws inspiration directly from amongst selected themes and styles of artists (past and present) who have exhibited at Inverleith House.

Botanical Illustration - Intermediate to Advanced

A class for botanical painters who have mastered the basic techniques of Beginning Botanical Painting. Students can work at their own pace, taking advantage of the RBGE’s plant collections and facilities, and the expertise of the class tutor.

Parrot and other Exotic Tulips - Janis Bain

Parrot tulips with their fascinating array of colour and unusual petal formation make an intriguing subject for the botanical artist. Draw and paint them and other bizarre double, fringed and exotic tulips in this class.

Tapestry Inspired by the Garden

An innovative beginners course utilizing plant fibres from which thread for inclusion within tapestry can be made. Experiments in mark-making, surface building, photography and paperwork extend creative possibilities.

STIXX: Paper Engineering workshop

Lisa Earl of CREATE will guide you through the process and help you turn your old newspaper into a stunning work of work or a handy piece of furniture.

Herbs of the Highlands

The indigenous healing herbs of these northern climes are part of a truly remarkable botanical ethnomedica – one that is steeped in the oral tradition, unique unto itself and its spectacular geographical location.

Papermaking with Plants

The garden is the inspiration for this programme, so we will be using flowers, leaves, seeds, stems and natural dyes from the plants grown both at Edinburgh Botanics and in the artist’s garden to make distinctive and unique papers.

Looking Through their Eye

Learn how to view and draw nature through the eyes of six great artists; Bonnard, Cezanne, Georgia O’Keefe, Matisse, Monet and Van Gogh. Each week we will look at the work of one artist to discuss and learn from their personal artistic interpretations.
