Corroboree (cor|robo¦ree) – gathering of Aboriginal people to celebrate culture and heritage

The RBGE will be celebrating our place in the heart of the Commonwealth with events at all our Gardens and at Glasgow Botanic Garden over the summer.  The events are timed to coincide with the Queen’s Baton Relay as this moves around the country in advance of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Australian performance artists Ariel Killick and Jillibula will be animating our Logan, Dawyck and Edinburgh gardens with a special piece, on stilts, highlighting the importance of shared cultures. Maori artist and tradition-bearer Veranoa Hetet will demonstrate traditional weaving using natural fibres drawn from the New Zealand flora and will be sharing ideas and inspiration with members of the Scottish Basketmakers’ Circle. Sculptor James Harry from Vancouver brings a First Nation perspective to his work with a range of materials, media and styles that reflect the artistic heritage of the Pacific North West as well as contemporary influences.
