Plant Health Protection Fund

One of Scotland’s iconic trees, the juniper (Juniperus communis) is best known for its berries and is utterly essential for making gin. But Scottish juniper has been threatened since 2007 by the pathogen Phytophthora austrocedri.

Phytophthora means “plant destroyer” and urgent action is needed to safeguard species like juniper from its ravages.

The race against time starts now, to identify new plant diseases before they have the chance to spread across Scotland.

Donate now to help take action for plants and trees like juniper affected by Phytophthora and other plant diseases. Your donation, whether large or small, will make sure the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh has the right tools and knowledge in place whenever these outbreaks strike.

Please don’t delay. Donate online now at to save plants and trees from succumbing to new diseases.
