The Edinburgh Botanic Garden (Sibbald) Trust, or 'Sibbald' as it is generally now known, is a Charitable Trust that works in co-operation with Garden management, but is independent from it. The original Declaration of Trust of 1978 was widely drawn so that it can give supplementary support to any of the manifold botanical and horticultural interests of the Garden. In recent years, it has given special emphasis to supporting basic plant taxonomy – a bedrock on which many other botanical disciplines depend. It has given fellowships to post-graduates working on the Ginger, Begonia and African violet families. It has also supported researchers from abroad making use of the Garden’s rich herbarium & library resources, field work by botanical and horticultural staff in many different parts of the world, research towards or publication of botanical or historical papers or books, and work on the Garden archives.

If you wish to know more about the Trust or are considering making a bequest or donation, please contact the Secretary, Ian Hedge on 0131 248 2955.
