Below are some examples of the kind of educational work RBGE engages in. Find out more about our Education Department
Branching Out
Branching Out is a project designed to help families and communities engage more with the Garden. It builds on the Garden’s experience and expertise in providing educational events and school programmes, bringing these skills to new audiences in Scotland. The initiative aims to build relationships and develop partnerships with youth groups, school clubs and community groups embracing those from ethnic minorities and socially deprived areas. Communities are encouraged to take part in a range of innovative, experiential activities aimed at raising awareness of the value of plants and biodiversity, nurturing an interest in the environment, developing a sense of connectivity with the Garden and helping people to use the Garden as an educational resource.
Education Endowment Fund
The endowment was set up in 2007 in memory of Professor Noel Robertson by his family. Professor Robertson was a Trustee of the Garden and greatly committed to horticultural education. The remit of the endowment is to provide additional financial support to further the educational aims of the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, with a preference to support individual students of all nationalities who are studying at RBGE but also supporting training, teaching, research activities or the creation of educational materials. We hope to grow this fund to ensure that the education programme of RBGE can continue to grow.
