The Dipterocarpaceae Data Base was begun in 1993 and was used to help write the Manuals of Dipterocarps for Foresters

Foresters' CD-ROM Manual: Malesian Dipterocarps
RBGE (1999), £20.00 plus £1.00 p+p

The data base contains records of all specimens of Dipterocarpaceae in the herbarium at RBGE and all those collected in Thailand. The latter were added by Dr. Rachun Pooma as part of his Ph.D. thesis of Kasetsart University.

In 2002, Professor Peter Ashton donated 20,000 or so record cards to the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh. Each card represents a specimen seen and they are gradually being added to the data base. Those relating to the species of the Philippines and of Sumatra have been added by Zisis Gagkas, Erling John Karlberg and Jane Droop as part of their M.Sc. degrees in Ecology of the University of Aberdeen.
