RBGE during the First World War

To mark the centenary of the beginning of the First World War, we have reproduced the Service Roll (1914-1919) and the inscription on the RBGE War Memorial (now situated in the reception area of the Science buildings at 20a Inverleith Row).

This document consists of a list of the men who were employed at RBGE at the start of the Great War and who enlisted in the Armed Forces.  Those marked with an asterisk did not return and are named on the Memorial and listed at the end of the document.

The RBGE First World War Service Roll

To mark the centenary of the passing of those named on our War Memorial, research has been done into who they were and, if possible, what they were involved in at the time of their death. All of their stories, and others related to RBGE at War can be found on our Botanics Stories page.
