In August 2007, after the completion of the API project, we began to work on specimens from areas covered by LAPI: Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean, and all of South America. In the RBGE herbarium there are an estimated 7000 type specimens from these regions and we have completed over 1700 of these.
The Global Types Initiative (GTI)

As well as specimens from Latin America, we are currently digitising type specimens from all areas of the world. We have completed all the type specimens from Gesneriaceae, Begoniaceae, Sapotaceae and Zingiberaceae and are currently working through the herbarium taxonomically from the end of the APG-II system.
We have digitised over 5500 specimens from regions other than those included in API or LAPI and have also completed the type specimens in the British Collection.
