Permission to re-use RBGE materials

You will normally need permission from us if you want to re-use material from any of our publications. For example, permission would be required if you wanted to use our material in any of the following ways:

  • In a presentation, exhibition or lecture;
  • In publications, including books and journal articles;
  • In films, sound recordings or broadcasts;
  • Adapting or repurposing;
  • Making content available via the internet, including via social media.

You must request permission before re-using our content unless the content is covered by a separate licence (e.g. a Creative Commons licence) that specifically covers your intended re-use.

You can request permission to re-use our published content via PLSclear - use the form to log the details of your request and we will get back to you with a fee quotation (where relevant) and licence terms. Please note that not all material is available for re-use and that permission is not granted until we have counter-signed your licence and any relevant fees have been paid.

If you would like to re-use unpublished material from our collections (e.g. Herbarium specimens, illustrations, archival content, etc) please contact us at with the details of the item(s) and the intended re-use.
