A sculpture commemorating the life and work of novelist Robin Jenkins was officially unveiled at Benmore Botanic Garden by Scottish Environment Minister, Michael Russell MSP, on October 8.
The Robin Jenkins sculpture, carved by Perthshire-based Nigel Ross from a single piece of sequoia as part of Cowalfest 2007, will be placed close to the Garden's Golden Gates in time for the Garden's reopening next spring.
The artwork, which depicts a pine cone on a large open book, a reference to one of Jenkins' best known novels The Cone Gatherers, has been funded by the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (RBGE), Forestry Commission Scotland, Younger Benmore Trust, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, Argyll and Bute Council and Cowalfest.
